Set
C101 - Floodlighting Pylons
"Moulded
in a combination of white, red, silver and pearl plastic and
individually operated by 4.5 volt battery (not supplied) with 3.5 volt
bulbs."
There are two main
versions of the C101 floodlights. The early ones were supported by three
thin red poles, and were identically matched to the 1960's red
fencing.(C108). The later set were the white pylon type lights that
lasted from the early 1970s until 1989. In 1990 they were replaced by
the "pillar" style floodlight which had a new number of
"61222".
They were available in two
different sets:- Set 1 contained two pylons and Set 2 contained one
pylon. In 1971 they were re-named Set A and Set B respectively.
There are variations to
each of the two types of light above. Jon Shelley has completed
extensive research into the variations as detailed below:-
-
Red poles, silver light box with bulb sticking out, battery box with
Subbuteo sticker on front. (Early 60s - 1970ish)
-
Red poles, silver light box with black lens 4-4-4 formation, battery box
with Subbuteo sticker on front. (1970ish)
-
White girders, silver light box, black lens 4-4-4 formation, battery box
without sticker. (1971/2 - 1977/78)
-
White girders, silver light box, black lens 4-3-4 formation, battery box
without sticker. (1977/78 - 1980/81)
-
White girders, black light box, black lens 4-3-4 formation, battery box
with contacts and switch. (1980/81 - 1991) Various battery boxes in both
white and beige with different sockets and contacts around this period.
There were also various
subtleties in the way that the light boxes fitted on top of the girders.
The later lights also
benefit from proper battery contacts and switches. There was also a
mains adaptor available in the early 1980s (C161). |
